1323921 2013-01-20 22:20:00 Hello all.
I have recently had trouble with my laptop, an HP Pavilion DV6 3091TX. By running system checks through BIOS I have come to the conclusion that I have a hard drive failure. Through one of the checks I got given a failure ID and was wondering if any of you would be able to make any sense of it.

“SMART Check: PASSED
Short DST: FAILED

FAILURE ID: PU631D-5RK6GM-XD0156-60QN03
PRODUCT ID: XU567PA#ABG
Hard disk 1”

This is what I am given by running one hard drive test.
I also booted up Linux via a pen drive and the rest of the hardware is functioning correctly, but it will not recognise the main hard drive partition. It recognises there is a partition but is unable to mount it. I have contacted the store but thought you might be able to give me some more insight into the problem.
Much appreciated,
Dylan

DST I believe stands for Disk Self Test, if this is failing, then it indicates a failing hard drive to me, I would be getting any personal data etc backed up asap and take it back to the store to be replaced.
Good luck.

You don't have two drives in this laptop do you?

1323924 2013-01-21 18:59:00 As Iantech mentioned, failing hard drive.

Given how cheap drives are, I'd backup the drive and replace it ASAP.

For dying hard-drives, I've used

1) a 3.5" USB enclosure and 2TB drive

2) Microsoft's downloadable "robocopy" to grab all readable files. It'll skip the rest.

1323925 2013-01-21 22:52:00 Clone the drive onto the new one, then replace it yourself, easy enough to do, there's a panel under laptops for accessing the drive, it's a DIY thing. pctek (84)
