I have a Western Digital My Elements External hard drive. I keep getting a message saying that there has been a device I/O error and to run CHKDSK/R if there is a disk involved. Any suggestions as to the solution? |

Try another USB port if it connects to a USB port. Or try another USB cable |

Tried all available combinations of available USB ports and different cables, and still get the same message. Any suggestions welcome! |

One reason could be the board in the Enclosure is starting to fail.
Some WD's have the HDD connected onto the board, others have the HDD slide in Via a SATA connector. |

Could also be that the power supply is failing (if it has one) |
