1323487 2013-01-19 03:26:00 Hi all.
Over the last few weeks my PC has not been wanting to start in the morning. I power down at night and in the morning pushing the start button does nothing - no lights, no noise, nothing. Turning it off at the wall I hear two clicks (like a solenoid) after the 2nd (and slightly louder click) the system will power up as normal with no performance issues.

Is this likely to be a power supply issue or something else? I don't think it's the start button.

I have an Antec earthwatts 650 watt power supply (just over 2years old).

Thanks!

1323488 2013-01-19 07:17:00 Is the problem worse on colder mornings or conversely, if it is a warm morning does it work without problems? zqwerty (97)
1323489 2013-01-19 09:25:00 It's consistently not working every morning. Mind you, it's summer so it's been consistently warm! Richardd150 (13927)
1323490 2013-01-19 20:00:00 I've done a couple of tests this morning. After logging in I waited a couple of minutes and shut down, at attempted start up same problem occurred. Shut down and left for 1.5 hours, same result. Richardd150 (13927)

1323492 2013-01-19 21:34:00 It could be the PSU unit, I had a Dell with similar issues recently that was the PSU acting up. It would only flash the power light as if it was in standby when you tried to turn it on and wouldn't start up unless you unplugged it and waited 10 seconds or so. When I opened it up I also noticed the PSU fan wasn't spinning ever, replacing the PSU fixed all the issues. I pulled the old one apart and checked the fan and it was working fine.

Also check that it is shutting down and not hibernating or going into standby, and consider trying a BIOS reset.

1323493 2013-01-24 08:32:00 Thanks for the replies. No, it's not hibernating and I''ve set the cmos/bios settings to "optimised defaults".
I haven't been working on the problem for a few days and got on to it again last night. I moved the pc across the room to a new power point with the intention of putting in a test psu. Turned it on and it booted up fine and continued to do so over several full shut downs and start ups! Sweet, I thought so I gave it a good clean out (didn't replace the psu) and moved it back to it's original spot - bang - immediately the problems back.
Tonight I again moved the pc and it's now on its 12+ shut down and restart with NO issues! I've been testing the Power Points on my surge protector to rule out an issue with that, and so far they''re checking out.
So, I'll move it back now and see what happens - any insights much appreciated!
Ps - I forgot to mention that in it's usual space it has sometimes been cycling through several reboots just as it get past the MB splash screen (and sometimes hanging on the splash screen) usually needing remedied by unplugging - none of this has yet happened in its temp space.

You need an electrician. Good testing, PSU is fine, that wall socket though - get it looked at.
