1322822 2013-01-15 00:55:00 Hi Guys

I just installed a whole lot of Windows 7 Updates.

When the machine re-booted I got a message similar to

"Applying Update Operations 11,000 Registry" (or similar) in large characters.

This took a minute

Then I got the Widows Welcome screen.

I suppose this is normal, but I had never seen it before and it scared me a bit.

Is this normal ?

1322824 2013-01-15 01:01:00 Looks like Nortons programs and Mcafee can cause that message too. If these are installed, uninstall them, then use their removal tools Speedy Gonzales (78)
1322825 2013-01-15 02:07:00 Thanks

No way would I ever have Norton or Mcafee on my machine or AVG bloatware.

1322826 2013-01-15 05:50:00 Yeah, just noticed that message when booting up all six Win 7 computers at Seniornet today. No Nortons or McAfees were installed on any machines. (No machines were harmed during the process either.)
I guess it is some new weird MS crap.

As far as I know Windows 7 has always done that after installing updates...

1322828 2013-01-15 06:55:00 Just because its booted OK now, it may still give problems. Have a look in the windows update logs and see if there are any failed updates.

Sometimes seeing a message like that can mean that windows is rolling back the backed up setting of the registry it makes before installing the new update(s)

If there's no failed updates it may be OK, if there are failed updates it will happen again, or can cause other problems.

It not normal for windows to show that message, its normal to show -- Installing update XXX of XXX do not turn off your computer

XX = number of updates

Edited: if it happens again, you need to get the complete exact message, not I think that's what it was or similar.

1322829 2013-01-15 07:29:00 Sounds a bit suspect, just did updates 2 days ago and everything went as it suppose to

Never heard of anything like that

Always chose to look at what I am downloading first

It's quite normal to show that upon next startup after applying certain classes of updates.

1322831 2013-01-16 19:32:00 Its not "normal" to see those types of updates -- The updates that will have gone in, if they are the ones that I'm thinking of, didn't show as described on any of the PC's here or any customers PC's that are here. There were different messages as mentioned earlier on. If it were normal for that particular class then why didn't they show on every PC ?

Edited: The type of Normal message is pictured below.
