| 1298771 | 2012-09-04 01:05:00 | Hi guys When ever I do a search for a company on Google these days there seems to be lots of useless listings by online directories. Eg Finda NZS HotFrog NZtop Gopher Opendi Vicdir Zipleaf Workboot Localbd They are a real pain and clutter the first 2 pages of Google Up. I get the feeling that many of them are overseas owned. They never have any useful information just an address and a phone number. Does anyone know much about them? Why do they exist ? |

Finda is great, best place to put your NZ business. Finda contains customer reviews too, on a lot of businesses. |

I want the email address and the owners name etc. Also I tend to find that if you are listed properly with them you will get lots of calls from Chinese companies wanting to sell you stuff. Whereas most people join these companies to get sales. I doubt if many people actually use them to look for stuff to buy. |

| 1298778 | 2012-09-04 11:55:00 | Yeah I get offers from Chinese companies, once being listed in NZ directories. You may need to refine your search by using Google's advanced operators, (www.googleguide.com) e.g. intitle:query, intext:query, inanchor:query etc. or by adding a secondary query or qualifier, e.g. "email", "buy", "address", etc. Legitimate Directories generally have credibility in the eyes of search engines, hence higher rankings and visibility in search results. Authority but not necessarily relevancy, based on your query intent. | kahawai chaser (3545) | ||
| 1298779 | 2012-09-04 20:13:00 | @Kahawai Chaser Yes I found that I got just about no inquires via them. But I did get lots of offers from China. So I removed my company from most of the directories. And I see what you means about Google ranking these directories high. But to me they are killing the Google experience I will study your search advice. |
