1323287 2013-01-19 20:21:00 As Richard pointed out, you would need a 3 user license.

Then the renewal ( NZ $$) is $96.20 each year after that ( thats Recommend retail)

If you buy nod32 theres a few settings you can adjust to make it work better than the defaults. Just ask and they can be provided.

1323288 2013-01-19 20:42:00 Columbuslee, I suggest that you backup your data, reformat and start new.
That is, unless you are confident your PC is totally clean.

If you want to avoid the $$ of NOD32, then keep MSE but also use Web of Trust and No Script
when surfing as well as running regular antimalware software (such as MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware and Spybot).

Good to know that your PC is back from near-death. I told you that PF1 would come to your rescue!

Thanks wainuitech and Speedy for helping my friend.

1323291 2013-01-29 03:21:00 First I want to say thanks for helping me.

It is great to have my computer back. But NOD 32 works so well it is stopping me from being able to download a codec for Windows Media Player. NOD 32 comes up with all kinds of stuff so I can't download any codec and Microsoft is no help at all. I just tried to download another DVD player but NOD 32 goes ballistic.

It finds all kinds of problems and so I am lost.

The funny thing is that the DVD will play on my laptop but not on my big computer.

I have always used CNET and NOD 32 doesn't.

NOD 32 also has the weirdest user interface. I just gave up trying to figure out when it does scans. It seems to make it's own schedule - I am afraid to upset it.

Any suggestions on where to get a download NOD 32 likes?

1323292 2013-01-29 04:12:00 Nod could be picking up some of the "extra" installed software in cnets down-loader. One thats commonly detected is Open Candy - So its basically doing its job.

Just regarding the scanning, you can set it up yourself.

Open the Nod interface - on the left Tools, in the right window - Scheduler -

Note, the pictures you'll see are from Smart security, but I'll only post ones relating to the Antivirus:

Untick some of the settings so they look like this:

4712

Down the bottom click on the ADD button -- From the drop down box select computer Scan - call it something ( I use System Scan) - select weekly if you want it weekly - Select the day and time you want it to scan - Click run as soon as possible - From the drop Down box, it will say Smart Scan, I select indepth Scan, then click the Setup Button, on the 3 top listed options, click each one and put ticks in all boxes. put ticks in the 3 options as shown/highlighted on the left, + any other drives you want it to scan regularly, save it, and reboot.

4713 it will do a scan automatically on the first boot after this, then will scan each week at the time and day you selected.

To enable even better protection, click setup on the left, on the right top, Computer ( blue Writing) then Configure - Setup - on the 3 top options as highlighted, select each one, tick all boxes, on cleaning move slider to Strict.

4714

May look confusing but its quite easy really, BTW -- all the settings are described in the actual manual ;)

Takes me less than a minute to set one up when installing for a customer.
Theres a lot more you can do , but thats about it for the basics. :)

1323293 2013-01-29 05:01:00 Ok to carry on, had to do some work urgently:

If you want to play DVD's theres several you can use that don't require extra codecs.

To name a couple ---- VLC Player (www.videolan.org) another good one is Media Player Classic (mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/) - Don't let the name fool ya, its a damn good media player with a truck load of options, I use it all the time. Another one is PotPlayer (http:).

On Windows 8 One of then requires DirectX to be installed, but I cant remember which one its either MPC or PotPlayer, but that's free from Microsoft.

(windows 8 doesn't come with native DVD playback unless you install Media Center) But the other programs mentioned will play DVD's just fine.

1323294 2013-01-29 05:35:00 Downloaded both VLC and Media Player Classic (looks REALLY cool would love to use it!!!!!!!). But both will not play the DVD.

What is so funny is that the DVD will play on my laptop using Windows Media Player.

I guess I will have to continue getting my Death Knight to level 90.

1323295 2013-01-29 05:56:00 When I used Media Player Classic I get this message at the bottom "DVD: Copy-Protect fail."

From what I see maybe the problem is my video card NVIDEA GeForce GTS 45 running DirectX 11.0
Columbuslee (16989)
1323296 2013-01-29 08:26:00 Its possible its using the wrong decoder.

Found the following on a codec site relating to MPC

Q: I get a "DVD: Macrovision Failed" or "DVD: Copy-Protect Fail" error when trying to play a DVD
A:
This may happen if you have are using madVR or Haali video renderer. Solution is to change the video renderer in MPC options.

MPC options -> Playback -> Output

Open the options along the top, View>Options>Playback>output.

Heres what mines set to.

Some other forums suggest your DVD drive region may be incorrectly set, to check right click Computer> Properties> Device Manager> Expand the Optical Drive>Right Click it> Properties> Region Tab> since you are in the USA, make sure that's selected ( Region 1)

Try playing around with the Video Render options if the above doesn't work - you never know.
