1298195 2012-09-02 20:06:00 The judges comments were taken out of context by the ankle-deep mental midgets who call themselves journalists. What actually happened is the judge observed that this case had been high profile, far beyond its importance, and a disproportionate amount of prurient public interest had been generated by the media.

In other words TV/newsprint guys and gals - would you be here if this was a typical Manukau driving/street fight/yadda yadda case?? No you wouldn't. You wouldn't even bother to report the case.

Pathetic.

Not that you'll find such analysis anywhere.

Wrong in so many ways.

Are you saying that the judge might have made a different judgement if there was no media attention?

If this is the correct sentence, and I am aware of your credentials in this matter, then I applaud the media for bringing it to our attention. The law needs to be changed because from my perspective the law is not just - or fair.

1298196 2012-09-02 20:52:00 I get annoyed by these articles and the threads they generate. Unless you sat through the entire case and heard all the evidence you are making judgements based on fragments of the evidence and the opinions of the people writing/ telling the story. There's a reason Jury members aren't allowed to see media stories about cases they are on, articles are almost always biased one way or the other.
We don't know the whole story, the Judge may have been too lenient or too harsh or got it about right, but we don't know that. It's the Job of the court to be fair. I'm sure in practice that's not always the case but at least the judge has the whole story before he passes his sentence, unlike you lot.

1298197 2012-09-02 21:33:00 I doubt as to if the victim had any say in the matter. The poor sod will probably have to fight like hell with ACC too.
Depends how much ACC levy he has paid I guess.

Shouldn't matter. Even if he was a visitor to NZ he's covered..

Won't matter as he will still probably have a fight on his hands to get anything out of them.

1298202 2012-09-02 22:42:00 Judges don't like get criticized.

The give decent sentences then!

The reason we have so much crime in this country is because the judges are TOO soft.

I think Home D was originally brought in for prisoners on the last year of their sentence.

We need to keep publisicing soft sentences and naming the judges.

I think that Crusher Collins is looking at this!

There needs to be MINIMUM sentences
And CUMULATIVE sentences.

That would reduce crime over night.

The guy was being a numbnuts by draping himself over the bonnet of a car, just asking to be run over. That a good excuse?
