Have successfully reinstalled OS(XP) now seem to be missing some drivers.
All service Packs installed from CDs

Checked Device Manager
Missing the following
Ethernet Controller (No Broadband???????? it keeps setting up dial up.)
Multi Media controller
PCI Simple communications Controller (No Broadband connection???????)
Video controller
Display is 640x480. Have a Veiwsonic monitor. Found drivers but they don,t seem to work.
Checked the Dell Site. got confused as to many options and don't know what to choose.

Any suggestions welcome

1323827 2013-01-20 01:59:00 XP doesnt install any drivers. Unless you slipstream them. You'll have to go to the Dell site search for the model. Then download / install them. PCI Simple communications Controller is probably a modem. You'll have to check the brand/model. Then go to whatever site to get the drivers

If there's a service tag on the case, search with that

1323828 2013-01-20 02:13:00 Make it a top priority to get the internet going (either Ethernet, or USB, depending on your modems cable). Once online it should sort itself out much more easily.

As already said, determine the exact model from the various stickers attached, and search the Dell site (typically better luck starting from Dell.co.nz rather than Dell.com, even if it redirects to the .com site). Download the driver you need (from a differnt, functional computer), unzip it if necessary, and transfer the file via USB stick or floppy to the non-functional computer.

Restarts may be required. That means OFF, not Standby or Hibernate modes.

1323829 2013-01-20 05:42:00 The Dell 2400 can be awkward to locate -- I'm justing uploading the following zip file That I have stored - they are the original XP Drivers -- its just over 6MB, download, unzip, you will find you have to go into the device manager for some, update drivers and point to the location you unzipped them to, select the appropriate driver

link --->>> sdrv.ms Go to that link, right click the file, Download.

1323831 2013-01-20 06:16:00 You may be able to find the drivers on the discs that came with the PC.

Want to reinstall Xp.
Have original discs and when I run the install disc it wants to install it without overwriting the existing XP instalation.

When you put the CD in the CD drive hold down the SHIFT key after closing the door until it stops spinning to prevent it starting automatically otherwise it may want to reinstall Windows again. You can then choose Explore in My Computer to look for a folder with drivers in it.
