104544 2002-12-09 19:49:00 My operating system is widows 98 OEM. A programme I want to install insists on Windows 98Se. Is there a service pack to upgrade to SE or do I have to purchase a new operating system/upgrade? I am used to Win98 and don't want to move the latest versions of Windows.

TIA Jaydee

104545 2002-12-09 20:04:00 The "OEM" refers to "Original Equipment Manufacturer", and simply designates that your version of Windows was supplied as part of the PC.

Windows 98 OEM is not a version, but simply Windows 98.

There may have been a "step up" available some years ago, but unsure that it still would be around.

Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) is not the latest version of Windows, but is still very popular. For this reason you are unlikely to find "really cheap" copies for sale. You could look on www.trademe.co.nz.

I do not see it listed new on some supplier websites now.
