| 104379 | 2002-12-09 03:51:00 | I am looking for a scanning program that will let me scan in from a newspaper or typewritted document and then save the scan as a word document. Is there such a program. At present I am scanning as a picture file and saving as a bmp. Not very satisfactory. Jack |

| 104380 | 2002-12-09 04:09:00 | Such things do exist. They are called "OCR" (Optical Character Recognition) programmes. Quite often such a programme is packaged with a scanner. Have a look at the disks which came with your scanner. It can take a bit of experimenting to get the error rate acceptably low. |

| 104382 | 2002-12-09 04:44:00 | All scanned documents then need error checking and proof reading as they WILL contain variations from the original. The program will try to interpret marks on the paper and add them in. Clean photocopies have the least errors, fax copies will contain more. If it's ancient, grubby newsprint there will be LOTS. |
