| 105046 | 2002-12-11 03:25:00 | All was fine until the XP service pack 1 was installed. Now I can no longer read disks on my Aopen 3248 CD Writer. When I try to uninstall it (thought a reinstall might help) the system crashes. Any solutions? | bpt1 (419) | ||

| 105048 | 2002-12-11 03:51:00 | I have a CD drive and a CDRW/DVD combo drive in my computer. DMA is not enabled on the combo drive, and I am not sure if I should enable it. I am running XP Professional, but previously had Windows ME. Under ME, when I enabled DMA on my DVD drive (the addition of the combo drive was just before installing XP), I was asked to restart. Once the computer had restarted, it started loading Windows and then froze. There was absolutely no resolution to this except reinstalling Windows. I suffered this three times, under various configurations, with various applications under suspicion for causing the freeze removed. I am not sure if I should enable DMA. The combo drive is the same brand as the previous DVD drive I had (Samsung). When I had just the DVD drive in I also had an LG CDRW drive in. It is not essential for me to enable DMA, as playing DVDs works fine, but it would be helpful if I knew that I could safely enable it or where the problem lies. |
