104957 2002-12-11 00:20:00 I developed an HMI [human machine interface] for controlling a manufacture plant that used several MS Form controls (scrollbars, listboxes, etc) Unfortunately I edited the application on a machine that had mainly Office'97 installed but also Access XP. The application was copied to the PC it needs to run on, which only had Office'97 on it. Needless to say, the controls no longer work due to wrong version. Error message = "Microsoft Forms 2.0 label: Newer file version of ActiveX control required"
Is it possible to copy something from the machine with Access XP to the other machine to update the version. If so, what files.

Firstly - It's illegal to install Microsofts programs on more than one computer if you don't have a license (not that I have done it or anything... ;\ )
Secondly - Office XP requires compulsory online registration - a pain in the a** to install Office XP over you 97 edition
Thirdly - Office XP runs from the registry - so you can't just copy over the office folder (bugger :D)
Finally... I would reccomend you purchase a copy of Office XP or 2000 from Trademe... Dependant on the sellers there are some reasonable people there, and you'll get a whole new office suite...
Or go to DSE (http://www.dse.co.nz) who are selling Office XP academic to everyone - regardless of whether you have ID or not (this is a limited time offer so be quick)

104959 2002-12-11 02:48:00 I have no experience with this sort of thing, but perhaps you could compare the versions of the OCX files in the Office/access folders and system32 folders on both machines to see if you can find the necessary version perhaps. BIFF (1)
104960 2002-12-11 23:38:00 The PC in question has a licensed copy of Office'97 installed.
The issue is that an application developed on a another machine with a different/later version of the same product, will no longer run correctly because the ActiveX control installed by the later product is not installed on the PC.

While I realize that installing a copy of Office XP will fix the problem, the client won't buy it, as the Office'97 meets all his requirements.

I assume that the MS Forms controls live in a ocx or dll file and should be able to be transferred.
