105001 2002-12-11 00:51:00 Hi
I have a desktop that connects to the net using a zyxel prestige 600 dsl router. My ISP is xtra, the connection is dynamic. My OS is Win98SE

Sometimes when Xtra changes the ip address the router can't see it. If I reboot everything is OK. So I have 2 questions.

1) Can I tweak my system so that new ip addresses are recognised without rebooting?

2) Can I use task scheduler to auto reboot say every 24hrs?

105002 2002-12-11 01:33:00 I got a smilar problem with my router( not the zyxel brand).

I am told by the the routers sales rep that Telecom randomly pauses dynamic-ip jetstart adsl users connection in their bizaare effort to stop users setting-up server. and my router just cannot recover from this kind of practice. I have to manually turn it off and back on. needless to say, I am so frustrated ...

some one suggests that if u can telnet to the router, then u can write a scripts to reboot the router once 24hrs.

another trick set idle time in the router(if that option is available in zxyel),
so that each time you connect to the net, you are likely to have a new ip.

There is an easy way to do this... Instead of resetting every 24 hours how about you just tell your computer to update it's IP addresses, gateways, etc every 24 hours...

Open up notepad and type:

WINIPCFG /RENEW_ALL
EXIT

Now save it somewhere useful like in C: but save it with the name "reset.bat" (include the " )

Now right click on it > Properties > Program and put a tick in Close on Exit.. Now a new shortcut is made called RENEW with the MSDOS logo in it. Put it on your desktop (or wherever you want)

Now go into Task Scheduler and tell it to schedule:
C:\[location of folder containing the shortcut]\reset.pif

every 24 hours or whenver you want it to. Reset.bat just renews your IP Addresses and should solve everything, with the only drawback been that Windows Opens WINIPCFG - this is easy to close. And the MSDos window should close automatically
