105253 2002-12-11 21:37:00 Sometimes at home with the 2 PC's being in different rooms, I wanna be able to send a quick message to the person on the other PC. I know It can be done by using something in the Command Prompt, but I cant remember how.

If anybody could please refresh my memory, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

105254 2002-12-11 21:50:00 I'm surprised CyberChuck hasn't answered this...

105255 2002-12-11 21:54:00 Yeah...

Considering we've done it at school :D

You can also send across a domain and workgroup - so much better than Winpopup

105256 2002-12-11 21:59:00 Winpopup can actually send messages across domains and workgroups, I've done it at home. You can also send a message to a whole workgroup with it. agent (30)
105257 2002-12-12 00:12:00 net send won't be of any use if you're not running an NT based system though.

Talking about net send has anyone been getting net send spam recently.

105258 2002-12-12 01:16:00 What about on Non-NT- Based Systems? Can non NT sys's receive them still? Chilling_Silence (9)
105259 2002-12-12 01:39:00 Yup

It's an ancient program called winpopup :D - and the joys of it is that it has to be running to receive messages (learnt that @ school)

Bugger Huh

105260 2002-12-12 21:14:00 So, Just wanting to make sure this is clear (I cant test it out just yet), I can send them from a NT based machine, to any (Including 95,98 etc.), but cannot send them from a 9x machine!? Chilling_Silence (9)
105261 2002-12-12 21:46:00 No

You can send messages from Windows 95, 98, (non NT based) to any Windows Machine but you have to use Winpopup to do it

You can send messages from WinNT based machines through NET SEND in the command prompt to any Windows machine - However, in order for NON-NT based systems to receive it they must have Winpopup running

Windows NT based systems popup a dialogue box in the middle of the screen displaying the received message automatically....
