105181 2002-12-14 19:52:00 Have you tried making a boot disk to boot into MSDOS that way?

Otherwise you could do what I do and put disk 1 of MSDOS setup in there, Press F3 a few times to quit setup and this will run MSDOS off the disks so you can therefore restore your system...

You could download MSDOS Here (www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk) - you just need to scroll down the page a bit, extract it onto floppy and put disk one in your computer, then PressF3 to exit and type the extract command I gave you above

105182 2002-12-14 21:36:00 Further to CyberChuck's suggestion, I would advise having a look through the disks that you should have got with your computer. Somewhere there you should have a floppy disk titled "Startup disk" or "System disk" or something like that.

If you can find one, just put it in the floppy drive before turning the computer on and follow the rest of CyberChuck's suggestions.

105183 2002-12-15 00:20:00 Thanks for the suggestion. I am in MSDOS, with a bootable disk. It has been so long since I have used this, I have forgotten how to connect to the "C" drive. Can you help

105184 2002-12-15 00:30:00 In MSDOS to change to the C drive type:
C: <Enter>
(Just press the Enter key after C:)

To change to another directory/folder:
CD <directory path>
e.g.:
cd \windows\options\cabs

BTW, it doesn't matter whether you use caps or lowercase in DOS commands, it just ignores the case.

105186 2002-12-15 01:20:00 OK. What version of MSDOS boot disk are you using? Older versions of MSDOS prior to the version that came with Win95B don't know about a FAT32 partition. If you have formatted your disk as FAT32 (most likely) it won't be able to see the C drive. Another possibility is that you are using a Drive Manager program so your system can work with a drive larger than 32Gb and without this piece of software running at boot time the C drive can't be accessed also. 105187 2002-12-15 01:36:00 It's an old version. I downloaded the ME bootable files onto a disk, but these didnt work, so I found an old disk. Back to the drwing board. I might be able to get a bootable disk from work tomorrow. Thanks for the help

105188 2002-12-15 04:21:00 If you have trouble getting one from work, try this site: DOS - Windows 9X/NT4/2000/XP Excellent Bootdisks (http://www.bootdisk.com) Download the image for Windows ME (OEM), follow the instructions to put the image onto a blank floppy and try booting that.

Good luck, and glad we were able to help you.

Cheers,
Rod.
