105542 2002-12-12 20:46:00 When loading Win95 I believe you can copy certain files (cab??) to the HDD to make loading new drivers etc easier in the future.

a. Is this correct;
b. If so, where should they be saved (and what to save); and
c. Do I then need to tell Win95 to look at the new repository (so it doesn't ask for the CDRom each time)

TIA

105543 2002-12-12 21:35:00 i normmally have a partition where the cab files are stored so when you format c they don't get wiped. i use UBD (www.startdisk.com i think) it has a cab copy function. there is a registry setting you can change so windows will look to the cab files instead of asking for the disk. tweak'e (174)
105544 2002-12-12 21:39:00 a. Yes

b. Save all the "Winxx.cab files to c:\windows\options\cabs. Create the folder if it doesn't already exist.

c. Yes, you need to add the folder to your registry. I'm not running 95 so can't be sure that this is it, but I think you will need to modify one of the values in the Hkey_Current_User\InstallLocationsMRU key. Someone else here should be able to verify this.

105545 2002-12-13 01:33:00 What I have done is follow the W95 CD file structure, and xcopy the WIN95 directory to a directory called WIN95 on the HD. That's all you "need".

The simplest way to change the entry is to use the regedit search for "D:\" (or whatever your CD is). There's usually only one entry with that --- the installation device. Change that to "C:\" , and it's done.
