2002-12-14 05:13:00 | My APAPI CD-R/Rw 8x4x32 (brand unknown - but think it's Ad-Aptic????) won't open the door, there IS a CD inside. I have done the obvious, like shutting down and restarting. even sticking and unfolded paperclip into a squareish(???) hole but to no avail. I have also tried right clicking the drive, selecting properties, selecting open draw, but nothing happened. I seem to recall that there is something else I must do with regard to this CDRW but cannot remember what it is. Short of shoveing?? a screwdriver into the door and forcing it open, then "grabbing" the slide with a pair of long nose pliers and dragging it out, what can I do ??? Sys WinME, 512 ram, a good graphics card (AGP), 20 gigs HDD. For those who are interested - my very first problem with ME and I don't think the OS is to blame !!!!, even after almost 2 years !!! Yea, roll on ME.

2002-12-14 06:09:00 | Hi Curly The hole should be very small and is usually round, not square so take another look for that option. Is device manager recognising that the drive is present? You could have lost power to it so check that the plugs are secure then try again. I wouldn't do the butchery job until you are absolutely sure that there is no other option. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2002-12-14 06:17:00 | Curly, you have to push the paper clip in pretty firmly. It won't hurt to gently pull with a screwdriver at the same tome. | crozier (2004) | |
2002-12-14 07:03:00 | To BillyT and Crozier Success - pushed the paperclip in firmly and wallah, it opened. BillyT , nope square hole is all there is, 1x earphone socket, 1xvol control,1xorange LED, 1xgreen LED, 1xbutton (don't know what it does) and 1x button = open door/ eject. Anyway, thanks guys - brutal operation no longer an option!

2002-12-14 09:10:00 | Hey Curly, Got a ME Machine mysel about 2 year old, no square hole, but about that (spare button). On my box looking at the box the right button opens the door and the left button if you have an audio cd in the drive, I quite by mistake pressed the said button and the cd started playing. Never could understand y the two buttons. hope that helps with the spare button. cheers merlin-nz in Linux ;-)

2002-12-14 20:57:00 | Indeed crozier, but some who are unfamiliar with the lingua franca (both meanings of the expression) prefer viola ?:| Perhaps they have a musical bent, and for them it is an exclamatory declaration that they hit the right note ]:) I prefer "nailed the sucker" myself :^O Cheers Billy 8-{) :D
