105770 2002-12-13 19:12:00 We're trying to network 2 XP Pro machines through a Hub (probably going to add more machines later). One machine can see the other no problem, and can browse the drives etc. The second machine however can see the first on the network, but cannot access it in any way due to "Permissions" not being set.

Any ideas where to look? We've tried a number of different ways to setup the machines, including creating the network setup disk to set up on both machines, but we get the same result every time.

It's not a problem with the firewall, as we originally did have a problem with that, but have overcome that, and it gives the same message whether the firewall is running or not.

First machine is NTFS, and is running IIS (if that makes a difference). The second machine is FAT32. I have a feeling it's something to do with the NTFS, but I'm at a loss as to where to look next.

Mike.

I would say your problem would be with the NTFS File System as this gives security to your computer by only giving those with certain permissions access to certain parts of the drive, Whereas Fat32 is practically an Open Drive - no restrictions.

Are you logging onto the second machine on an account that has privilages on the first machine (eg: are you logging onto Comp2 with a Comp1 account?) Or you could try mapping a drive to Comp1 and specifying the UserName and Password to use?

To do this (on Machine 2) right click on My Network Places, Click Map Drive, Click Connect as Different User and follow it through - just use a Username and Password from a user on machine one

105772 2002-12-13 23:19:00 You might have to enable the guest account.

If you dont want to do this then you need to set up accounts on both machines with the same user logins and then set permissions as to what they can access.
