106305 2002-12-15 09:12:00 Hi. I'm too much of a newbie to install Linux on my comp:. But I spend hours messing with my XP pro. If I converted my Basic disc to 'dynamic' (and by default, from FAT to NTFS) shall I be able to install Linux into a volume - that is if I ever aquire the know how or even someone to do it for me. Incidently, I have the Knoppix CD from your mag: and the CD's from the Australian monthly(ex Pac'n'Save Thames). Joseph (2471)
106306 2002-12-15 09:28:00 Partitions formatted with ext2 or ext3 are normally required for Linux on separate partitions. All you really need to get an installation under way is some free unpartitioned space on your hard disk. JohnD (509)

106308 2002-12-16 09:42:00 Hi, thanks for that, the second hand cheapo HD seems a really good idea.
Happy Christmas to you all.
Joseph.
