106329 2002-12-16 06:42:00 Sorry Crozier..

I do admit that it was a bit childish of me and it will not happen again. As for my foul language I apologize, as it was unacceptible to be used in such a public forum. It was probably due to the mere fustration of finding such a good program and not having it work that upset me.

I have System Restore turned on C.S - I just find it not as good as I would like it to be... I would prefer something that when the slightest change is made to the HDD that it backsup just before hand (a bit on the wishful thinking side)

Although Ghosting is an option I don't really want to do that every few days either...

Still Thanks for your replies

I'm not sure if you're serious or just kidding, but I think this comment needn't be said either way - a lot of people really believe ME is a bad OS, mainly because they read/hear it in forums like this. Many people have even gone to the expense of buying a different OS because of the "advice" of others telling about how bad ME is. ME is a very good OS, and runs well if set up correctly (much the same as any other OS). Why people think it's so bad is beyond me.

106331 2002-12-16 08:41:00 I'm sorry Mike, I was not trying to destroy the hopes of prospective Microsoft customers. I was merely stating the downside of ME - or most windows for that matter.
I have always had trouble with rein/uninstalling programs. I am even running XP and saved a system restore point before I tried a certain play around. When I tried to restore to that point, all hell broke loose and so I reformatted.
I did intend to belittle the system for its lack of file security. It cannot cope with certain conditions which the above average user throws at it. Hence, ME was only designed for the home user - this does not mean an expert user's home computer. I'm sorry but all the expert user's would (should) be using something a little more sound - maybe win2k, or better yet XP(pro).

I can't seem to get away from MS (it has more compatible software at the mo.), but would prefer the stability, security, productivity and minimalization of linux.

You know, I thinks that's the point, really. For years I resisted 'IBM compatables' because Macs and Amigas were far superior. In the end I got fed up with having to hunt around for hardware and software. If you want the choice to go into any one of dozens of stores to make a purchase you really only have one choice at the moment. Personally I don't have time to mess about wiht an enthusiasts OS. Been there done that, so to speak (still got my AMiga though ')

106333 2002-12-16 09:00:00 It sounds to me like a problem with your video settings. Maybe what you are typing is OK but it just appears garbled on the screen? Are your video drivers and DirectX up to date? Trillian uses a 'skinning' system which I imagine might not work with all systems. It works fine on my system (Celeron 500 Win98SE 128Mb). Rod J (451)
106334 2002-12-16 09:09:00 You too, Baldy? That's interesting - two users with Win ME (yours is Win ME isn't it Baldy?)

Anyone with Win ME successfully use Trillian??

I am starting to wonder if its a ME issue myself.

Well I was happily using ME before switching to XP earlier this year, and it handled almost anything I threw at it, and usually if it didn't it was my fault anyway. Or am I just an average home user (I think not!)? If an above average or expert home user cannot configure an OS to handle anything that's thrown at it, then the "expert" can't be as good as he thinks he is :)
