106608 2002-12-16 19:30:00 Looks like the 2 year old cd rom drive has had it.Is it worth buying another cd writer drive,as I already have one which is nearly a year old?Hardly used at all for games.Win ME. Neil McC (178)
106609 2002-12-16 19:36:00 Hey

Your currently using a CDWriter as your CDRom drive?- as it's only a year old it still may be under warranty - find out

Are there any lights or sounds coming from the drive, as my first suspicion would be a loose power cable coming from the drive to the computer

106610 2002-12-16 20:24:00 I would get a dvd drive myself. They're cheap enough. I don't seen any point in getting a second CDRW though. crozier (2004)
106611 2002-12-16 20:24:00 I agree with CyberChuck, check the cables and the warranty, but a new one is only about $120 All up with Nero 5! Check Pricespy.co.nz Chilling_Silence (9)
106612 2002-12-17 00:12:00 Wondered that myself, crozier.Might look into that, but is there any use for DVD yet? Have just bought a standalone one for the TV. Neil McC (178)
106613 2002-12-17 00:15:00 Thanks guys, but it's not the cd writer thats given up.And the cd rom drive drawer opens, and the light flashes, but it wont shut! :_| Neil McC (178)
106614 2002-12-17 01:44:00 Apart from movies some software is available on DVD and some magazine cover disks.

The price is now comparable to cd drives, a tad over $100 on http://www.pricespy.co.nz

106615 2002-12-17 01:49:00 AND THE QUALITY! If you've seen a DVD, The quality compared to a standard Video is amazing! Chilling_Silence (9)
106616 2002-12-17 07:35:00 Are you saying that your CD-ROM drive has had hardly any use and now it's packed up?

Don't leave it at that -- one year warranty or not, take it back where you got it from and tell them CD-ROM drives should last a heck of a lot longer than that. Why, mine has had a good thrashing and it's still running sweet after 4½ years *touchwood*.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained - it's worth a try.

106617 2002-12-17 21:04:00 So your CD-ROM has Died but your CD Writer is still fine. Then just use the CD Writer, it will work just as good as any CD-ROM. Why spend $100 if you don't have too. NathanTheKind (472)
