106755 2002-12-18 05:40:00 Hmmm... Using Asus Probe to monitor my CPU... never drops below 40deg even from a cold start!

Am I missing something here??

Lo.

Remember that your entire motherboard and CPU cost would be less than any reasonably accurate temperature sensor and display.

On board sensors are *very approximate* only. Just because its part of "a computer" don't assign any degree of accuracy to it.

I use a stand-alone monitor, separate probes attached where I know what they are measuring. And then I take it as approximate (+/- 5 degrees). Right now my P4 heat sink (under the fan, top of die) is 30 degrees, ambient is 22 degrees, case at top is 23.5 degrees. All *approximately*

Really accurate temperature transducers cost more than your motherboard. Each.

106757 2002-12-18 06:09:00 it all depends on how its measured (internal or external sensor) and how accurate the mobo is. also with different ROOM temps cpu temps can vary from pc to pc. don't forget it also varys acording to load (ie how much progs are running in the background, different OS's etc)

my cpu(1.4 t'bird) is 36 degrees with cooler prog on at idle (win98) but its measure under the cpu so 'real' cpu temp is going to be up in the high 40's low 50's somewhere. a mates 1ghz duron (same mobo) dosn't get above 30.
