106850 2002-12-17 20:03:00 Hey

I would say that the problem is SSL.. Xtra Servers for POP don't require SSL to be used, however the error message says that it is:

The eror message is, "The host 'pop3.xtra.co.nz' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz', Server: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D"

To disable SSL over the POP3 connection
Open OE > Tools > Accounts
Click on the Mail tab then click on your XTRA account and click properties
Click the Servers tab
Take the tick out of Log on Using Secure Password Authentication
Click on the advanced tab
Take the ticks out of both of the "This Server Requires a Secure Connection"
and that should fix it

106851 2002-12-17 20:16:00 CC, suggest you read the message again.

Account: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz', Server: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D"

Which part of "No" do you not understand? :)

106852 2002-12-17 20:37:00 hmm..
That's the second time I've done that this morning...
Not reading the full message and jumping to conclusions....

Might just go back in my hole and curl up for the night...
Or I could just blame it on my parents for limiting my net time and say that's causing me unnecessary stress in which limit's my ability to fully help people to the ability in which I am capable of?

Thanks GodFather

106853 2002-12-17 20:48:00 I've had probs like this before, Removing the account and adding a new one as suggested cured it.

It also happen for my previous employer, and it did not cure it, but switching to IncrediMail or NeoPlanet (Incredimail.com and neoplanet.com respectively) worked fine. It only happens in OE6, not 5 AFAIK.

I would suggest that you take a quick look at IncrediMail - Email Evolved is their slogan, quite good software, allows easy integration of images etc into the mail messages.

NeoPlanet is basically the same as OE6, only it's skinnable, my preffered of the two!

I know this is not a solution, but change comes for everybody, maybe its your time. I can say though, that I have resolved this previously by removing the account and re-adding it, although one time it acted really strange and wanted a new Dial-Up conecction to be created and then a new mail account and it worked.

Perhaps you could try removing the mail account from OE, adding a new Dial-Up connection and then re-adding the mail account when conected through the new connection. Its a long shot, but still...

Hope this helps

106854 2002-12-17 21:13:00 I suggest you phone up Xtra again for assistance. I remember the same problem ever happened to me a couple of times in the past and I contacted Xtra's help desk and as usual, they blamed my settings. But I knew my settings are correct. I then spoke to their supervisor and after a few hours later, it's up and running again!

I'm almost (not 100%) sure that it is because of Xtra's mail server settings. They are taking the easy way out by blaming users. You may request to speak to their Supervisor. You paid for the service and you expect results.

A couple of months ago, I couldn't access a number of web sites (my regular sites) and I contacted Xtra. As usual, they blame my IE settings, website problems, etc. But the fact was, I could access those sites from other ISPs with the same machine. I took up the matter with their Supervisor and after a long battle (6 days), I then threatened to terminate my account if they can't solve the problem. Like magic, the problem was solved within hours later. Be firm with them. They are good at blaming their customers.

Good luck

106855 2002-12-18 00:31:00 I had this problem previously, and cured it.
1. Delete the email account from OE
2. Uninstall Dial Up Networking in Windows
3. Reinstall Dial Up Networking in Windows
4. Add your ISP in Dial Up Networking
5. Add the email account in OE

This worked for me, so best of luck.

106856 2002-12-18 01:01:00 There is no need to touch Dialup networking.
In his original post he said his internet access was OK, web sites load so his connection is working.
This is purely an email problem.

True, yet my internet was working fine too, so why did after recreating a new DUNN did it start to work again?

Just because you HDD is failing doesnt mean its only related to the HDD, The power connection could be loose!

The point is, it might not just be OE's fault!

106858 2002-12-18 01:27:00 DUN?????

Sounds weird to me, however it did make me think, there is an option somewhere near the server settings in OE that tells it which connection to the internet to use. If you select any available you should be fine. You may have at some point selected another ISP, this may disable xtra

106859 2002-12-18 01:34:00 DUN = Dial-Up Networking

DUNN = Dial-Up Networking Number

DUNNO = Unsure or puzzled :D
