106745 2002-12-17 04:39:00 My P4 2.4MHz is currently sitting on its average of 26.5 deg C and the case is 28 deg C in a room at around 23 C. The PC has been running most of the afternoon but not working that hard (just surfing internet).

Have not had it properly "under load" yet but so far the CPU has never got above 32 C on a hot day. I'd be very worried if mine got to 50 C and would be looking at installing a third or fourth fan if it ever gets up to 40 C.

I should have said above 60 deg... Anyway, in a room only 16deg that is high... didn't read that part properly...

Either way though, the measurement of the heat of a CPU can be pretty variable... I mean, where is it taking the heat from? Motherboard, under CPU, from heatsink, etc... Mine has never dropped under 40deg, even from a coldstart.

Lo.

106747 2002-12-17 08:19:00 sorry all - MORON ALERT.

clearly i was asleep when i posted that message. i gave case autumn case temperatures... ha ha ha. :8}

my pc on full load now gets these temperatures: CPU: 36 degrees; Case: 25 degrees ( in an 18 degree room).

yea, i have fitted extra fans.

thanks for the info about max temps for P4's. man my celeron never cracked 37 degrees

sorry, and be warned - morons are among us.. well in japan anyway...

106748 2002-12-17 09:08:00 That's more like it. ;-)

Now I wonder if Lohsing is going to revise his? :D

106749 2002-12-17 09:25:00 Where do you find the temperatures talked about here? Danger (287)
106750 2002-12-17 09:50:00 most motherboards (but not all brand name systems, funny that ;-) ) monitor the cpu and case temps. you can use a program like mbm (motherboard monitor) to display the temps. the cpu temp with athoXP and p4 is measured in the cpu which is more accurate and reads higher than the older under the cpu tempsensor. note some boards can use both make sure you know which sensor is being used. the case sensor is placed at the other end of the mobo and gives an indication of case temps (tho case fans can make this reading a little inaccurate).

not all bios report the temps accurately (for eg, asus has had bios upgrades to fix this with some boards).

room temps you can measure with a thermometer which is also handy to check case temps with.

106751 2002-12-17 21:34:00 I can't get MBM to work, it just displays the temperatures as zero. It maybe my motherboard, but I'm not sure if there's something I'm not doing. I run an extra fan, which I wired up to a big switch I mounted on the front of my case. The status in the bios say the system temp drops 5 degrees:) tango (2697)
106752 2002-12-17 21:56:00 what mobo do you have? just check you have the correct settings in MBM as it can be a little tricky to set up. tweak'e (174)
106753 2002-12-17 21:58:00 What would be the average for an AMD Athlon system, I think mines currently around 30-35ish!? Chilling_Silence (9)

Hi Chill. Is that the case temp? If it's the CPU temp then it's really low.
