107703 2002-12-20 03:56:00 I have been trying to download an mp3 from a group in Yahoo Groups. The mp3 is over 4mb in size, but the downloading stopped about half-way on my first attempt (after 11 minutes), and about a third of the way on my second attempt (after 5 minutes). When I started the download, on both occasions everything seemed ok to start with...the dialog box showed that with about 4.3mb to download, the download would take about 15-20 minutes.

I have a 33.6k dial up modem. On the second attempt, I closed all other windows and did nothing else other than wait for the download, just in case my slow modem etc was the problem. But that didn't seem to work.

Yahoo Groups seems to have no help relating to this problem.

I would be grateful for any help.

107705 2002-12-20 09:06:00 Thanks, I tried that but it didn't work. All it gave me was a 5kb file called "auth" despite consulting the help menu and trying all the different ways of downloading a file (clicking on it, entering the URL)...

So I tried another download manager, Download Accelerator Plus. This downloaded the file to about the half-way point, then threw that all away and started downloading from the beginning again. That is also what happened when I tried it without any download manager, except that it didn't restart on its own (but at least left me with half a file instead of nothing).

My computer isn't actually disconnecting. The download seems to simply give up somewhere between the beginning and the half-way point.

The file, an mp3, is in the File section of a Yahoo Group, and I wondered whether someone else initiating a download while mine was in progress, had an effect somehow.

They describe their sofware as;
Fresh Download An easy-to-use and very fast download manager software that turbo charges downloading files from the Internet, such as your favorite software, mp3 files, video files, picture collections, etc.

107707 2002-12-20 09:31:00 If its only this one MP3 file, then you may have to accept the fact its on a flaky server at the other end, that cannot handle the number of connections .

It sounds like its resetting your download .

You can either just keep trying or give up . If the server will not play ball with a download manager, not much you can do?

If its a legitimate MP3 file, it should be available elsewhere .
If its not legitimate (i . e . a pirated file) then its best not to dwell on it .
