107680 2002-12-20 02:44:00 I have just given myself a Christmas present - an upgrade of an additional 256 doublesided SD Ram from 128. I'm running a Pentium 111 733E 133 Mhz processor with 98SE OS. with a 20 Gb hard drive. My question. What improvements should I notice because I'm somewhat disappointed to say I can't actually notice anything different. Somebody told me with W98 I won't notice much and would need to upgrade to XP before I noticed anything worthwhile. Did I waste my money?

107681 2002-12-20 02:49:00 No, I dont think you did.

They say that coz XP as an OS uses up a whole lot more RAM and 98.
98 goes quite easy on the RAM as an operating system, so if you do gaming and other things like Video Editing, Image Manipulation, Sound editing, or anything else like that, then you'll notice it!

If you do Gaming, then you'll notice it, being smoother, load times decrease and other things too!

Load times overall will be decreased I guess if its able to store it in RAM!

Merry Christmas

107682 2002-12-20 02:55:00 It really depends on what you use the computer for.

If multi-tasking you will notice a large improvement. Like when you've got 30+ browser windows, 5 Word documents, and 9 spreadsheets open. Or video editing and other memory hogging things.

107683 2002-12-20 03:26:00 Thanks Chilling Silence and JM for those reassuring comments. I tend to do a bit of multi tasking and want to gert into a bit of graphics work so I feel a lot happier.
Merry Christmas and thanks again for you help

107684 2002-12-20 10:35:00 The extra RAM will help. You may not see the improvement but it will be there. You will only notice while having several windows open at the same time. Elephant (599)
