107453 2002-12-19 02:59:00 That is one of the things which happens. ;-) The checksum is a number generated when you have change the settings in the BIOS. It is written to the memory witht he settings. When the boot routines reads the settings, it recalculates the checksum, and compares it with the stored one. If the memory contents are lost because the voltage drops too low, there will usually be a difference, and the BIOS code says that this is a fatal error.

Some hardware will detect that the battery voltage is too low, and complain about it before things get lost. Sometimes the clock will drop out before the BIOS settings are lost.

Have you replaced the battery or talked to the shop about it?
