107748 2002-12-20 20:20:00 I'm a seagate fan, but i will say that i find the baracudas a bit sus. I lost a 30gig baracuda HDD once for no good reason, and every seagate i have seen fail has been that "type". Sure thats just one observers viewpoint, but there does seem to be a pattern here.

107749 2002-12-20 20:23:00 I've got a 40GB Seagate Baracuda drive. Had it for a while, and there's nothing wrong with it. I think there will always be a chance that your hard drive will fail, and if it does, hope like hell you can get it replaced free or for next to nothing (unless of course you've been dropping it so the reading arms ruin the platters). agent (30)
107750 2002-12-21 03:55:00 I suppose the faster something spins, the faster it will wear out. Right?? Bambi (1486)
107751 2002-12-21 04:16:00 Whatever you do, stay away from the Fujitsu's hard drives. We've had continuous failure on them. For us, its not if, it's when the Fujitsu drives will fail. nzStan (440)
107752 2002-12-21 04:30:00 Are they really that bad?

Tweak'e reckons to stay away from IBM (is this a fact), all this time I thought they were the best money could buy (more expensive than the competition).

Learn somthing every day :)

107753 2002-12-21 05:51:00 8 Fujitsu IDE drive failures in six months. Lots of pissed off users. Nuff said? nzStan (440)
107754 2002-12-21 06:33:00 Yep, Nuff said.

What about IBM? Good or Bad?

107756 2002-12-21 08:21:00 8 out of 12. We're holding our breath on the other 4.

See following news item (www.theregister.co.uk) and you'll understand why I don't touch Fujitsu drives anymore.
