| 107719 | 2002-12-21 02:05:00 | I suspect that there is a lot of faulty memory around . Most of the time it doesn't cause a crash . If you can't spell, you can't expect the computer to be able to :D when you are typing into Word . If you overclock, you will be running the CPU faster than the manufacturer is prepared to guarantee the operation of that CPU . But you might be running the memory faster than it is capable of running, too . I've seen it suggested that to run at 100 MHz, memory should be rated 133MHz . By the way, it is very difficult to test memory . (The BIOS does not even try: it finds the "presence" of memory, not whether it works) . The best test I've heard of is to recompile a Linux kernel . It uses all the memory, in an application which has to have every byte read correctly . |
