I am wonderng whether there is a free TLD in the world.

Cheers

107648 2002-12-20 02:49:00 http://www.dot.tk will sort you out with a free .tk domain in most cases. -=JM=- (16)
107649 2002-12-20 03:18:00 Well a .tk domain is OK, but you get what you pays for, and .tk will give you a pointer from yourdomain.tk, but thats about it. In other words yourdomain.tk/subdirectory wont ever work unless you pay for it.

But if ALL you want is a nice easy name for a website, go for it!
PS they expire if you dont use them, i found this out by trying one on a site i hardly use as an expererment.

107650 2002-12-20 03:32:00 Top Level Domain is actually the right hand side part of a domain name (eg .nz). - you can't get your own TLD :D

If you want a cheap domain name try someone like godaddy.com (www.godaddy.com) or 123-reg.uk (http:)

Free domain names normally come with a requirement for paid hosting.

If you want a free subdomain, try orcon (http://www.orcon.net.nz) to get a name like yang.orcon.net.nz, along with free hosting

I wouldn't say that quite yet. It wouldn't surprise me if someone ends up getting their own one at some stage. ;)

The implication is that only M$ would be big and ugly enough to get something usually reserved for a country
