108016 2002-12-21 08:58:00 Today I started to get the above error message when trying to post on newsgroups via Outlook Express (IE6), cannot post.

I have tried searching MS knowledge base and FAQ's but nothing, nil, nada. Can anyone give me a clue?

Using XP(SP1).

108017 2002-12-21 09:10:00 sounds like you might not have set your mail or news server info right.

you could check with your ISP for this infomation.

108018 2002-12-21 09:14:00 thanks for the reply - but everything else is working fine - and I have changed nothing for weeks (software) and the ISP settings have been in place for months - I think it might be a corruption in the Reg - but cannot find the relevant key. bishfish (2819)
108019 2002-12-21 09:17:00 can you do a system restore??
roll back to a few weeks ago when things worked??

108020 2002-12-21 09:58:00 tried that as well, gone back two restorations - but have taken your advice and the ISP is trying to see what htey can come up with. bishfish (2819)
108021 2002-12-21 20:02:00 Hey

Have you tried deleting all the Outlook accounts and then setting them up again. This will sort out any registry entries that may have corrupted.

108022 2002-12-21 21:04:00 Check this -

1.On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
2.In the Default Messaging Programs area, click Make Default for
news or mail.

108023 2002-12-21 22:50:00 Thanks for the help guys,

Ok recap, - now I have re-installed IE6 (with o/express) twice, deleted all my mail & news accounts and re-set, checked all settings with the ISP, checked all registry settings I could find related to the problem, and the problem persists. What now:(

108024 2002-12-21 23:14:00 How are you re-setting up your email and news accounts?? are you using a CD given to you from your ISP or are you manually entering all the information in? - also who's your ISP?

Otherwise, you could try going to Eudora (www.eudora.com) which I haven't tried, however it's supposed to be very good

108025 2002-12-21 23:35:00 I found it - there is a small file in system 32 called (funny enough) fixmapi.exe, ran it and it did the trick bishfish (2819)
