Is this the monitor or a virus or what?

And i cheked all the monitor cables and they are correctly in.

108072 2002-12-21 22:36:00 It's most likely the monitor. You can try giving it a 'technical tap' on the side - if this makes a difference, the problem is likely a 'dry joint' (solder) internally. wuppo (41)
108073 2002-12-21 23:21:00 This could be a sign of magnetic interference from something, if there is any magnets or something with magnets in it nearby try moving them away. Also, if your monitor is relativly new you may have a degauss option on the monitor, degauss the monitor a few times. If all this fails turn it off and on for a while this may 'manually' degauss the monitor.

If all else fails i wouldn't bother getting it repaired cos monitor repair is usually very expensive. Depending on your monitor it might be easier to get a new one.

108074 2002-12-21 23:37:00 If it flicked pink then stayed pink, and its uniform all over as to colour then its safe to assume its not magnetic interference.

I would subscribe to the "dry joint" scenario, or a failed component.

If you can get it to correct itself by a "calibrated thump" then a dry joint is likely.
If you cannot get it to come right, even momentarily, then it could be a component failure.

It is also characteristic of a bad connection in the cabling plugs/sockets, however you say you have checked them. Undo them and refit them to make sure.

108075 2002-12-22 00:08:00 A warning about some games (might only apply if they use OpenGL as the renderer):

Try not to screw the game up so you have to close it using Ctrl+Alt+Del, as this can tend to leave your gamma on the level the game uses, meaning Windows will look a hell of a lot brighter. I've had this problem a few times, had to reset the computer, launch the game again, and do something... can't remember. Else I just reinstalled the drivers for my graphics card.

108076 2002-12-23 02:40:00 Maybe the VGA card - speaking from prior experience which was an original S3 Trio 2mb or something, on my workstation at the office ..........

My home monitor is outward bound to the trash heap because it probably has a dry joint - it's symptoms are like micro power outages after it has warmed up .........

Any suggestions as to what 17in flat screen tube monitor ? eg: Eden Computers have MAG(?) for $299+gst ......
