| 107937 | 2002-12-21 04:46:00 | I have a modem which will not connect at the right speed, no matter what driver I throw at it. I am running XP and 98, and I have tried the standard modem drivers, and specific ones for the modem with both OS's, and I can only get 14.4 connects, when it is a 28.8k modem. Is there any way I can bypass windows and control the modem directly by passing it stuff via the serial port (it is external), and get it to conect at the right speed?? And please, no suggestions on purchasing a new modem, I am already doing that but it won't arrive until after christmas, so I need something in the mean time... Cheers, Craig. |

| 107938 | 2002-12-21 05:34:00 | You don't say where you live as it could be that the phone connection won't allow more than that. I spent some time in a coastal area and could only connect at 9.6( Admittedly it was a radio phone area). I have a friend on the edge of town that can only connect at 33.6 where as in town I usually connect at between 48 & 52. something. If it is the phone line dictating the speed a new modem won't make much difference. |

| 107939 | 2002-12-21 22:55:00 | Hahaha, the joke is on me!! The modem is a repackaged 14.4k modem! On the outside it says Banksia MyFast 28.8 Modem, but I opened it up to see what chipset it was using so I could find some info on the web, and on the circuit board it says it is a Dynalink DeskModem 1414VE. What a joke! Looks like I won't be able to get 28.8 out of this no matter what I try!! Cheers anyway, Craig. |
