1325607 2013-01-30 04:56:00 Hi guys just built a Windows 7 PC for a mate.
It BSODs me every now and then. I get the 0x124 error that halmacpi.dll causes.
Not really sure what to do. Just running Driver Verifier. I think it is a driver issue as sound will not work even when I have installed the latest
Realtek drivers. I booted the thing up then a Realtek control panel was open. So that was cool, sound was working till it just froze the BSODed me.

Specs (the old stuff :p)

A8N SLI Motherboard
2GB DDR400 RAM
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHz socket 939 (should really get the 64x2 version)
60GB IDE HDD Master
80GB IDE HDD Slave

It has all the latest updates and service pack 1.

It has Microsoft Security Essentials installed.
Help would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

1325608 2013-01-30 07:14:00 Few things to try...

have you installed all motherboard drivers - primarily chipset?

find an old PCI sound card and install it. See if the problem arises from that. It may be a hardware issue

try an older audio driver

1325610 2013-01-30 07:41:00 Try looking on windows update or realtek for newer drivers.

Try removing the Drivers completely and running windows updates for newer ones.

The motherboard may be to old for Asus to support. Just had a look on ASUS's site, that board the last complete drivers was for XP, even the Vista drivers are beta.

Is it the straight A8N SLI - as they made several different versions. the SE,Premium & Deluxe support.asus.com

1325611 2013-01-30 10:13:00 Its not overclocked is it?? That can cause that stop error. And the CPU thats on it can also cause it. Did the sound work without installing any sound drivers?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1325612 2013-02-01 03:37:00 Hi guys thanks will try your suggestions.
No it's not overclocked at all. I don't think the sound worked straight away.
It's the straight A8N-SLI board. Which OS drivers should I download??
Do you recommend any tools for uninstalling drivers?

1325613 2013-02-01 04:04:00 What audio drivers did you install?? I don't think ASUS know what sound is onboard. Since there's 2 different Realtek drivers under XP on their site. ALC850 and AC97 Speedy Gonzales (78)
1325614 2013-02-01 04:22:00 Both... :p

Neither do anything.

1325615 2013-02-01 04:27:00 Well, I would uninstall both and install this. (www.nforcershq.com)

According to this the ASUS forum, it should fix it (vip.asus.com)
