| 1325317 | 2013-01-28 01:10:00 | Hi I'm trying to fix a laptop for a friend and am currently out of ideas. The laptop boots up fine and there doesn't appear to be any problems while using the OS. The problem however is that the laptop will not shutdown. After clicking the shutdown button the laptop will enter the "shutting down" screen and then wont do anything, even after 40 minutes, and the only way to shut it down is to press and hold the power button. I've read through many different forum threads and tried the following solutions: Running virus checks (Spybot S & D found 12 which have been removed) Disabling all start-up programs (as far as I am aware nothing but AVG and Nvidia control panel starts with windows) Updating video card driver (I read somewhere some Nvidia utility may cause this issue) Checked for windows updates (PC is up-to-date apart from 2 'unessential updates') Owner tried restore point (unsure of how far back they went) - now the restore center cannot find any restore points After all of the above the problem still persists and I don't know what else to try. The laptops specs are as follows: Model: HP DV6700 Special Edition Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHZ 2GB RAM Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit Nvidia GTX 8400M GS One other thing I found was the Device Manager lists two devices, under 'Other devices' tab called 'Base System Device', without drivers. However after reading this (h30434.www3.hp.com) it looks as though the driver is for the SD Card reader and is probably not the cause of the problem. Any help regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated. |

| 1325322 | 2013-01-28 06:01:00 | Ok so I just fixed the problem. Turns out there was an SD card in the card reader that I hadn't noticed and once removed the laptop shut down normally. Thank you for all of your help :) | Epsilon (2806) | ||
