1325197 2013-01-27 21:48:00 Hi Guys

I would like to use two monitors on my Windows 7 desktop.

One for say Word and one for say an Access Database

At present I have one wide screen and I use the Windows 7 Snap to the left and right feature, which works great.

But I am thinking that having two monitors would be better and easier.

My Video card seems to have one DVI port and one HDMI port.

What is involved with setting up two monitors ?

Is it just buying a second one and plugging it it ? (I think I have an HDMI cable)

Or will I need to buy a new card with say two DVI ports

Plug it in and set it up in your Video card drivers or in Windows. Pretty easy really.

I'll give it a go!

1325201 2013-01-28 04:08:00 It is easy, but be aware that snap to half screen doesn't work properly with an extended desktop - you can only snap to the left of the left screen & right of the right screen. Not a bid deal, just something to be aware of. Greven (91)

The Windows key + arrow keyboard shortcuts still work though.

I just plugged my second monitor in and it came up right away!

Fooled me at first as it just had my Widows wallpaper with nothing on it.
I was sort of expecting a start button or some icons.

But then I worked out that you just have to open an app and use the start and arrow keys to move it over to the other screen.

I did not seem to need to go into Control Panel (I had a quick look and the options scared me) so I have left it as it was.

It will just take me a few days to get used to controlling my apps as I want them.

Now I really am a power user.
Gee I wish I had kept a smaller screen I have a 24inch and a 19 inch and there's not much room left.

Windows 7 and earlier just show a "blank" screen; Windows 8 shows a taskbar on both/all screens. :)

1325205 2013-01-29 20:13:00 I'm really enjoying my two screens.

I should have done it much earlier.

That Windows 8 feature sounds good.

1325206 2013-01-29 21:00:00 Just drag windows around with the title bar, if they are full screen just drag them down slighty first and drag back to the top on the other screen to full screen again. dugimodo (138)
