| 1324965 | 2013-01-25 23:13:00 | Windows keps telling me I have low disc space left on a partition on my hard drive. It is 117 Gig. But when checking data on it,there is only 29 gig that is showing that I can see (Files,)yet it is saying that there is only 15mg left and I have supposidly used 117 Gig? I cannot find any hidden files as it is only a data partition so no windows , so I am perplexed as to where the other 88 Gig had been used? What are my options? Much thanks in advance as this is driving me crazy. Thomo |

Don't attempt to calculate used space by manually adding up the total space used in each folder. Other losses of major amounts of space can come from having too much RAM! Windows likes to keep 1.5 x total RAM as hidden hard disc space for caching the contents of RAM. Similarly having Hibernation enabled in Power Settings will also set aside a block of HDD equal in size to your total RAM. The latest madness of having 16GB of RAM simply because it is possible (note possible, not practical) can consequently cause 40GB of HDD to be lost from the available space. Running some HDD checks (Scandisc) may also bring up a solution. Inappropriate shutdowns (cutting power / system failures / being too hasty to use Reset) can cause HDD file and space problems. |
