1324514 2013-01-23 19:47:00 In another thread it was advised that 8GB of RAM is the current sweet spot which sounds about right to me, but does it make any difference whether you have two 4GB dual channel sticks or just one 8GB stick? Logic tells me that it shouldn't but we are talking about computers here. :p FoxyMX (5)
1324515 2013-01-23 20:36:00 With 2x4gb sticks, you can run it in dual channel mode, which should allow for a slightly faster speed than 1x8gb stick, providing all other specs are equal. Nick G (16709)
1324516 2013-01-23 21:47:00 8 GB is good if you're using 64 bit. If you're not forget it. It depends (on how many slots are on the mobo - and the total amount of ram it supports), and if the slots on the mobo support single 8 GB sticks. If it doesnt it wont boot

ie: If the mobo has 4 slots and supports up to 32 GB ram, it should support single 8 GB sticks. If the mobo supports up to 16 GB then it would only support single 4 GB sticks

1324517 2013-01-23 22:14:00 I would go with dual sticks a bit faster well the theory that is at least. With my 3yr old PC, I went for 2x 2GB even thou I could have went for a single 4GB I think. I think that at every era, most people don't really need to put in the max capacity in each slot. 3yr ago and now I still have 2x2GB and it's fine, these days you could have 2x4GB and that should be fine. If you have 4 slots, in future you could put in another 2x4GB or 2x8GB. That should be enough for most people until you change the motherboard. Nomad (952)
