1324443 2013-01-23 01:36:00 Hi, just looking at the Brother multi function lasers. I heard they are just as decent as others for consumer use. Had a look at the toner, they are half price but they print about half amount of pages. That's fine. The Brother has drums that you buy for a bit over $100 whereas my Canon doesn't have drum replacement as least on Computer Food's webpage.

Are some of other brands have the drum incorporated into the toner? The users manual states a drum replacement after 12,000 pages or 6 standard toners going by Canon/HP mileage.

:thanks:

1324444 2013-01-23 03:11:00 Some do have a drum built in. personally I ignore the expected life of a drum, replace it or the printer when its actually needed, not when they say it "should" be replaced.

Depending on when the drum "has" to be replaced, its often cheaper to buy a new printer. My original Brother black laser end up doing roughly twice its expected life before it had to be replaced. Brought a whole new printer, it was cheaper.

1324445 2013-01-23 22:49:00 Thanks :) We may just get a 2500 pg toner for the Canon MF instead. The Brother is newer but doesn't have any new features, no network/wifi/duplex unless we get the $300+ model. The included Brother toner last 700pg, while the additional toners last 1200pg for approx half price which is the same as the Canon. Just re: the initial purchase - no new features/benefits and I get a 1/4 of the toner capacity. Nomad (952)
