1299223 2012-09-08 21:41:00 Just steal it like the crims do. If you're caught, explain that you were forced to do it because your dole had been stopped. In any event, the judge will probably sentence you to be the recipient of $100 of petrol vouchers and three kisses from a beauty queen.

Not if the sensible sentencing lot had their way - it would be three kisses from Paula Bennet.

Whoa - grim.
Beats being Paula Bennett I suppose. ;)

1299225 2012-09-09 00:00:00 Judges are not paid to provide punishment. They are there to provide "rehabilitation." Probably we should buy the offenders a puppy? That's why domestic abuse perpetrators are sentenced to home detention with their victims. It reduces the cost of providing an accommodation allowance so Paula wins again. So whether they run away or stay, MSD can't lose. The only losers will be the increased number of victims. Blue Druid (4480)
1299226 2012-09-09 01:59:00 What about if I want 100 litres for my boat?
or petrol for the mower.

Well, odds are you'll be towing that boat with a registered car, and if not, you're not really likely to walk off with 100 litres of fuel in a tank under each arm...

There would be cause for a manual override of the system... like when a passenger walks up with a gas can for a car a mile away that's run outta gas.

1299229 2012-09-09 12:40:00 Having licence checks at petrol stations could be a good idea but there would be a lot of flaws in the system.

Do not forget that petrol station owners are already tax gatherers. They collect GST and petrol tax from unsuspecting motorists.

:)

1299231 2012-09-09 20:17:00 I also support this change, but would point out that crims on the run, while not getting their benefit, will just turn to crime to support themselves. So the change in policy may bite society in the nether regions....

The most likely outcome...
