1299203 2012-09-06 22:03:00 Go Paula. She makes me hot when I see her, As hot as the strippers in Fort street. People with warrants and people not paying fines should have their benefit stopped and the kids taken away from them from them if they don't provide the required necessities of life. Their details should be given to credit agencies and their names, photo, fine total and crime they committed be on a public website for all to view. The fines should never be scrapped or converted till they die. These filth should not be allowed to leave NZ until their fines are totally squared away.
Makes me sick that benes can still get free money when there are warrants and fines outstanding. These people don't deserve the right to raise kids anyway, plenty of other people who could adopt them and give them a better life.

1299204 2012-09-06 22:14:00 I also support this change, but would point out that crims on the run, while not getting their benefit, will just turn to crime to support themselves. So the change in policy may bite society in the nether regions....

Definitely, However I don't think society should fear criminals to the point we mollycoddle them and endorse their actions rather then standing against them. And those that are of a mind to live off crime tend to be doing just that (hence the warrants and being on the run from police)

More resources need to go into finding these people (and locking them up), New Zealand is a tiny country, surrounded by water, The only place they can be hiding is in plain sight. if they go into winz or collect their dole then the cops should indulge in a meet and greet.

Hows this, If the police are looking for you then your benefit gets stopped, if you then commit a crime and the police shoot you they receive a $10000 bonus.

1299206 2012-09-07 00:59:00 Well, if you don't know me you are unable to give me any due (or undue ) respect.
I feel that some on this forum are purposely controversial.
By all means sanction criminals, but if cutting children adrift is the most effective way of tracking down those with outstanding warrants
then it is time for the Police to get off their arses and do something other than write out speeding tickets!

SO THERE!!!

I believe in respect for any human being and in granting that, irrespective of whether one knows the person or otherwise, we empower ourselves to take that back from fools :)

I agree that police should get off their arses and do some meaningful policing other than issuing tickets!

1299207 2012-09-07 01:07:00 can they claim unemployment while in jail?
No. And I can state that based on knowledge. (nah, not been in jail myself if that is what you're wondering)

1299208 2012-09-07 02:13:00 I see nothing wrong with information sharing between government departments if it helps the Police track down criminals on the run. Crims will not bother to claim the benefit when they realise that their information will be passed on to the Police. The reason to cancel their benefit will be gone. Bobh (5192)

Your forgetting that the life skills of many of these people consist of taking that which is given, and taking that which isn't. And that is all.

Crims will still take the easy cash even if they have the capacity to comprehend it may help those that are looking for them. The more cunning ones will just get their kids or womenfolk to collect it for them.

But may never be right...Depends who else they share information with or how they benefit themselves with more client info. Recently a few Manukau WINZ staff (www.stuff.co.nz) were sacked for sharing - and getting paid - beneficiary details to debt agencies and others. Mate of mine who works at WINZ told me. Also reportedly involved licensed doctors who somehow benefited.
