1324863 2013-01-26 05:40:00 Probably a network issue with the ISP, sometimes the packets went via a "clean" or goo route, other times they went down the faulty route. That's one of the "features" of a packet switched network. The Error Guy (14052)
1324864 2013-01-26 07:52:00 Yeah just ring your ISP as in my previous post there could be some maintenance going on in your exchange. Your ISP will know this as Chorus would of notified them. My first port of call when something goes wrong with my internet is not PF1 but a call to my ISP.

1324865 2013-01-26 21:53:00 If you get any more dropouts check the DSL and PPP lights are up on the modem (if it has them). If DSL is dropping off it's a line or hardware problem, if ppp is dropping it could be an ISP issue. Either way a faulty router could still be the cause.
If it keeps happening see if you can borrow a router from somewhere to eliminate that or talk to your ISP.

1324866 2013-01-26 23:11:00 I'm with dugimodo, and no Chorus don't notify them.

I dropped offline the other night about a fortnight ago, ran down to the local cabinet and a Chorus tech was down there fixing a problem for another resident running off the cabinet. He'd apparently kicked everybody locally offline. By the time I'd driven 30 seconds back home, connection was up again.

1324867 2013-01-27 02:57:00 Excuse me Chorus do notify them. When I rang up my ISP the other day about an outage my ISP said they had been notified about by Chorus it at such and such a time.

Thanks for the advise, I'll do that.

Scheduled yes, sometimes, but most outages you ever experience are unscheduled.

Ring your ISP first, it doesn't cost you anything.

That's a logical answer.

1324872 2013-01-27 11:37:00 I recently experienced random drop outs, sometimes short, sometimes longer. Chorus did a line check and came up with "untwisted cables" allowing interference to be picked up. This didn't make sense as the wires could hardly untwist then twist again by themselves, and the performance was good between drop outs. They added that they would relieve me of some Cash if it was between the house & junction box. To cut a long story short, it turned out to be an ants nest in the wall socket! Cleaned it up & sealed a gap with Blue tack. All fixed. mzee (3324)
