1299930 2012-09-10 04:00:00 Standing Ovations have been Americanised. I beleive a standing ovation should only be awarded for a performance that is truly commendable. These days, SOs are given at the end of most performances, or during an introduction where the audience recognises a particular piece. . Should be on your feet when listening to live music. Get rid of the seats, if its not worth standing for then might as well leave. Metla (12)

her legs arnt very long at all :-)

Anyway, its a TV program designed for ratings (ie fun factor), not really a true Talent show.

1299932 2012-09-10 04:32:00 Dunno, Mets . Your comment takes me back to a live concert by the Houston Philharmonic . As the draw card to entice the fickle public to attend, they advertised the theme from Starwars .

The evening was a fiasco . . . prior to the grand finale, the orchestra played some fine classical music . But the red necks attending were constantly milling around, the hot dog stalls vendors, ice cream vendors and beer bars outside the auditorium (the Houston Astrodome) were doing a constant trade . But for the finale itself, you could hear a pin drop . This was the cultural climax of the evening . The rednecks were in their element . The yobos yobbed (or whatever yobos do), the cultural elite of that fine city glared at the great unwashed, the ladies of the night were out in force . The Mayor patted himself on the back for having spent thousands of the ratepayers money to stage the event . And everyone said what a fine piece of music it was, what a brilliant orchestra, and then gave their standing ovation .

Sort of an event one could imagine could happen in your new stamping ground, the cultural desert that is Brisbane .

1299934 2012-09-10 11:19:00 It's gonna be another NZ Idol. My little sister went to the Dunedin taping (was given a ticket from a friend I believe) and she enjoyed it, and both my mum and sister thought it was awesome last night on tv.

I was watching it, and me and my dad agreed, It's gonna be a total flop.

It looks cheap and nasty (watched the American one on Prime later that night) and there was very little talent, the fat samoan dude shouln't have gone through. I do think that creppy old guy dancing was probably the best of all the lot. I don't think they will recoup their costs for the show, as they weren't able to when Prime did it in 2008. Dammit, that British UB40 dude really pissed me off. I would of thought that someone like him would bring a strict "Simon Cowell" type persona to it, but no.

I also wish they would go back to the way tv used to be. Dammit, Stop using a damn Kiwi accent! It just can't stand it. I wish they were still using that sort of half kiwi/half british accent they used to use like here: www.youtube.com

1299935 2012-09-10 20:22:00 You are completely wrong Goodiesguy. Out of the dozen or so people I spoke to about it yesterday they said they really enjoyed it.

1299938 2012-09-16 22:05:00 Last nights show was just as good as the first. The 3 best for me were the last contestant where she mixed her own song on the fly. The 18 yo old man who sung a original song about a relationship and the 11 yo boy who sung a original song for his runaway cat. The contestant who made me laugh the most was the one who came out and started singing and got the buzzer after about 15 seconds and was told before you come out make sure you tune your guitar.

1299939 2012-09-16 22:16:00 I do like talent but so far it has all been terrible. Probably wont watch again until the quarter finals.........maybe by then there MIGHT be some talent but up to now, forget it.

As for the applause and all the rest of the audience participation, it's all canned and so unreal. Absolute c**p!
