1299193 2012-09-06 03:05:00 They only have themselves to blame if their children go without and they can end the issue by turning themselves in as they should have done originally. It really must be a strange world you occupy, everything in stark Black and White.
Some of us see shades of Grey (no, not the book!)

1299194 2012-09-06 05:08:00 There are certain things that I have lost all patience and compassion towards, one being the country being given to Maoris piece by piece and the other being the deplorable welfare state that has grown in this country, anything that curbs either of these is the right move in my book but no measures will ever get rid of them completely. With all due respect, because I do not know you and I don't want to pass a judgment, this kind of mentality has created more shades of grey the pantone books can accommodate. These shades of grey have created huge cracks in our society where many people fall through and lose all hope and self-esteem.

I believe that the old way we grew up, the gentlemen/gentlepersons grew up, was one where the personal responsibility was instilled.

Life is not fair - get over it I used to be told. I agree.

1299196 2012-09-06 09:56:00 Well, if you don't know me you are unable to give me any due (or undue ) respect.
I feel that some on this forum are purposely controversial.
By all means sanction criminals, but if cutting children adrift is the most effective way of tracking down those with outstanding warrants
then it is time for the Police to get off their arses and do something other than write out speeding tickets!

SO THERE!!!

1299197 2012-09-06 10:05:00 There needs to be some pressure applied for these swine to comply with the laws of the countrty.

Cutting their benefits will apply some pressures from within the family, and may result in some partners turning in their spouse in order to ensure the kids get fed. Also not a bad thing in my opinion.

It seems insane that we continue to pay crims to continue to be non compliant. What sort of lesson does that send? Crime pays! Just do it! Ignore the consequences. Do it again. And again.

Go Paula Bennett!

1299198 2012-09-06 10:42:00 can they claim unemployment while in jail? Greven (91)
1299199 2012-09-06 10:50:00 Don't misunderstand me, I do support this policy,
I just feel care needs to be taken to ensure that kids who are involved are considered.

1299200 2012-09-06 21:08:00 So, then their children starve, pretty bright! :groan:

Darwin would say that is as it should be.

The progeny of these units tend to follow in parents foot steps.

1299201 2012-09-06 21:27:00 I also support this change, but would point out that crims on the run, while not getting their benefit, will just turn to crime to support themselves. So the change in policy may bite society in the nether regions.... johcar (6283)
1299202 2012-09-06 21:50:00 I agree it gets a bit more complicated when there are children involved, but if the criminals in question do not have dependants it shouldn't even be a question.
Cut them off, starve them out, whatever works. If they don't like it they will just have to obey the law like the rest of us. I'd even go so far as to say too much of a criminal record should permanently disqualify you from a benefit.

I don't really care much for complaints about how criminals are treated at all, If you break the law the consequences are on your own head.
