| 1324543 | 2013-01-23 21:19:00 | Hi guys I've been a Windows user since 3.11 And they still have not cracked the desktop icons layout. I'm on 7 now and loving it. But they still re-arrange themselves sometimes And then for no reason some of my icons have reverted to default windows icons (the same for each app) This is very annoying. I have been able to replace some of them by using a work around. But some I have not been able to fix yet esp Microsoft Excel. I had a look on Google for some fixes and it looks a bit tricky. What do you think ? I wonder if 8 will be any better. (if they have icons!) It is so annoying when you get them just where you want them, and then they get all mixed up! |

To stop them getting all moved about afterwards I use Fences - from Stardock - to let the fences automatically adjust things into their right place after I've finished. Can't help you with the default thing though. |

So I suppose Windows 7 is better at it than I thought I did have a Google at the desktop icon cache, but it looked a bit tricky and I did not try any of the suggestions But @linw I am pretty certain that lots of people loose their icons, especially their positioning. I have about 40 which I would say is about average. |

| 1324547 | 2013-01-24 20:59:00 | Since I only have 2 desktop icons on Win7 and all the most used programs are pined to the taskbar instead it's less of an issue for me although have never had them move around on me ever, yet. I did occasionally loose my sidebar items but even that hasn't happened for a long time | gary67 (56) | ||

| 1324549 | 2013-01-25 08:09:00 | I have 77 icons on my Windows 7 desktop and don't have any problems. Been meaning to make a folder to put them all into. :) |

I do have 4 folders with more related icons in them. |
