Work Desk (www.imagef1.net.nz)Um, got any spare hard drives there? lol

After Monday, I'll try getting one of my office (its work in progress at the moment).

1299479 2012-09-07 05:49:00 haha.... yea, those are server drives from one of our recently departed IBM x3500 servers. The motherboard died so pulled all the drives out. ronyville (10611)

1299482 2012-09-07 13:29:00 I'm building electric basses .

The greenish one is a replica of a 1953 Fender Telecaster-style bass but with the body cutaway and arm relief . It has an 'Antiquities' single/exposed bobbin coil and a NOS (New, Old Stock) 'Chocolate' tug bar which are getting pretty rare, but unfortunately NOT a single screw version (rats) .

I have the true authentic Fender chrome bridge, p'up covers and a real Fender single ply pickguard for it . The control knobs - where I deviated a bit more from original parts, are mother-of-pearl inserts over fine knurled chrome . This bass had been built a year or so ago before I decided I wanted to go from 1956 Packard Green to 1957 Buick Arctic Blue .

The yellow one is somewhat my own design, closely resembling and Ovation bass guitar with the German scallop around some of the upper edge of the body and on the 'G-side' of the headstock . It has real 1966 Fender Precision split coil pickups but with new exposed core covers on them .

I normally won't rebuild a bass from another brand as I am stuck on Fender and Ibanez as my weapon of choice, but this presented a unique challenge to me to repair and rebuild it but to my own specs .

On the yellow one, I had a very badly water damaged neck lying around and just defretted it and took it down to a new profile, added white filler material in the fret wire grooves and will have it completely refinished in another 24-36 hours or so .

It's a hobby and the yellow one was SUPPOSED to be for a friend for cost+, but I fall in love with all the ones I make and just wind up keeping them .

Oh --- I make my own necks usually, but I have bought an unfinished one from time to time .

The triple penguin logo is registered as mine as is the 'TUXEDO BASS' name .

Here's one of my experiments that worked out very well, and now I just have to refinish it to get that glossy coating that I like so much:::

This is totally my own design, down to the Fender Squier style blocked and bound neck with rosewood fingerboard:::

Like I said, it's just a hobby for now and I really don't see it going any larger than it is .

My quest is to prove that wood makes no difference in a solid body bass or a guitar . There is no actual resonance or frequency 'sweet spot' to a slab of wood and so I am building them out of some very unorthodox woods . In this case, I used left over Hemlock and Douglas Fir wood from a construction project on which I worked::

No - not really as I didn't go to trade school for the stuff I do. I just decided one day to make my own.

'Luthier' is somewhat a prestigious title and I'm not in that crowd.

I had a Les Paul Special and it was so heavy that I got rid of it. Besides, I didn't think it 'fit' into the scheme of my bass collection, which only has Fenders, Squiers, a couple of Ibanezes and some of my own design.

I did build a new body for a totally destroyed Gibson 'Strat-style' that I had damaged when it fell off a rooftop onto the freeway at 65+ MPH:::

Eventually it has to be refinished again as the paint is not compatible with the primer and it's developing some spider-crazing in the finish. Kinda looks kewl though in an 'Industrial-Punker' fusion style.
