108413 2002-12-23 05:47:00 hi,
my PC (AMD 1700, 40gb HDD, GF2 64mb, 256mb SD-RAM) is mainly for gaming.
Anyway, i was just about to go out and purchase an extra 512mb Ram ($64) but then i remebered that my MoBo supports both ddr and sdram, now, could someone please tell me if ddr is better? and if so, by how much?
Also, on that note, if DDR is better, what would be better:
768mb SDRAM
or
256mb DDR Ram (thats if i spent the $70 and sold current sdram)

cheers
merry xmas

108414 2002-12-23 05:51:00 Hi again Fergie
On your Athlon Setup DDR would be the best, its heaps faster and well worth the extra money. I would go with DDR 2100 ram, don't bother with 2700 (if your mobo even supports it) unless you are looking at overclocking cos it runs faster than the FSB on the mobo ;). 768mb of SD would be good but the performance gain from DDR would be way better for games... i believe.

108415 2002-12-23 05:53:00 Forgot to add that if you can I would try going with 512mb of DDR, then you would have a very good setup ;)

SD is starting to date and putting it on a new machine like yours your creating bottlenecks which arn't needed during game :D

108416 2002-12-23 06:19:00 Hi David

I was told by a gamer not too long ago that SD-Ram was better than DDR for gaming but I can't see how this is correct.

108417 2002-12-23 06:31:00 It isn't better how ever when your comparing equal amounts. However 512mb SDram will give you PC (if it's runing xp or Linux) much more of a boost than 128MB DDR as the Extra memory is of more use than the extra bandwidth. Falcdragon (919)
108418 2002-12-23 07:44:00 thanks all.
Falcdragon, going from your advice, i'm better off to keep the SDram and even get more of it.
its just that SDram is so darn cheap:
Pricespy figures:
SDRAM DDR
128 = $32 $70
256= $55 $122

so you can see that DDR is twice the price of SD, so 256 sd, should be same as 128ddr ??:p
