108275 2002-12-22 23:16:00 AIM (aol) Really good.

I got all the others ( ICQ, MSN, YAHOO ) but my preference is AIM

108276 2002-12-23 01:10:00 I don't use MSN but instead use an open protocol called Jabber. Jabber uses XML for communicating with the server so is quite bandwidth efficient. It also has lots of interesting features that no other protocols have.

Jabber.org (http://www.jabber.org)

Depending on the server and client you use, you can also talk to friends using other protocols by using the "transport" feature. This has to be enabled on the server side but lets you add users as if they were also using jabber.

108277 2002-12-23 01:58:00 Still using 3.6, not a big user of it so I have never bothered with all the bell and whistle up grades. duckyduck (197)
108278 2002-12-23 03:22:00 Have never used and dont want to. As already said by Prue, Big Brother Microsoft is too intrusive, and seems to be trying to take over the world :) All this passport nonsense too, I did look at that once, but never completed the form. Have to admit to a bit of paranoia :D

The big problem is that all these things come bundled with MS OS and many people dont know that there is another world existing outside of MS, so are not in a position to make informed decisions.

Having said that, I use Netmeeting and ICQ for communication, but then as my mum told me years ago, I dont go talking to strangers, just friends and family apart from forums like Press F1 :)

108281 2002-12-23 04:53:00 MSN 5...i just update when there is a new version available...
i dont care what comes with it as long i can get to chat to my friends online...without any costs (remembering the rumours of micorosoft charging for this)....

ICQ...used to be a heavy user of this...now i only use it at UCOl since they have blocked all communication via stuff like MSN etc..but they probably neva heard of ICQ (java version)

Yahoo...latest version....it is a good thing 2 have but i gotta like close the whole thing if i wanna minimise it in systry since it takes all windows with it..

trillian...too complicated and boring for me...

everything elsse...neva heard of them...

108282 2002-12-23 05:29:00 I have been known to use Jabber as well. Its just that when you get into having different transports to talk to MSN (or ICQ) there is too much to rely on for my liking.

But Jabber is great.

108283 2002-12-23 05:47:00 I use msn 5.0 and 4.7 on my older machines cos all my mates use it ;) and its free and relativtly hassle free.
