| 108411 | 2002-12-23 05:45:00 | Hiya You will NEVER EVER connect at 56bps, i think it is actually illegal on the phonelines cos voltage is too high or something (someone prove me wrong). 30 is a bit low and is usually something to do with your phone line. Could be an old phone or damaged lines. Especially in the country. The LT win modem is especially suspeptible to interference in the phone line. It may also be your settings. To check go into the control panel, click the 'modems' icon. Double click on your LT Win modem and make sure under one of the tabs that the max port speed is set to the highest etc. - David |

Its common to get speeds 50 or above, however that depends on many things. Firstly, the quality and type of phone line. If Telecom are using a "2+0" system on your line, which happens when there is a shortage of lines in your area, you will not get better than 30k on dial-up connect speed. You also need to check what settings (if any) are under "advanced" in your modem properties, as a string here can limit the speed, often for reliability purposes (where the connect speed is forced lower to prevent the connection dropping) You need to ensure you are using the right driver for your modem brand and type (LT Winmodem is a generic description, not a brand) You can find drivers on the Modem makers website usually, when you know the brand and model. |
