108195 2002-12-22 05:08:00 the other day I down loaded a trial of Dramatic the RAM tool as reviewed in our beloved NZ PC World

my memory load was around 99% "very bad" as it kindly informed me and this is on ME AMD 900 Mhz CPU, 128 MB and only three programmes running when I hit Ctrl/alt/delete

I then added 64 MB to RAM using Dramatic and then my memory load was down to 66% "average"

I mean little seemed to change regards machine speed etc..

my question being are these readings reliable or do they simply want me to pay 20 bucks for the tool when the trial period is over...?

oh and

can I free up this RAM manually via configuration without any outside tools such as Dramatic?

TIA

108196 2002-12-22 06:04:00 IMO ram optimizes are a waste of time.

The reason your memory load would have been at 99% is because windows uses spare RAM to store frequently accessed files to improve performance.

I found they actually make performance worse in the short term and unchanged over all.

I can post a quick description of how they work if you want.

yes I thought it was too good to be true B Mason

Try this free program (for anything below W2K). It was exellent when I was using it on WinMe, don't need it now that I am on W2K but I still install it anyway (it's like a security blanket for me).
